Bad news for Feyenoord: Koeman confirms Geertruida’s injury

Lutsharel Geertruida had to leave early on Friday evening for his basic debut for the Orange squad against France. The 22-year-old defender of Feyenoord grabbed his hamstring. National coach Ronald Koeman told NOS afterwards that it ‘doesn’t look good’.

Koeman chose to throw Geertruida to the lions against France on Friday evening in Paris. The Dutch national team played a hopeless match and eventually lost 4-0, but Geertruida received compliments from NOS analyst Rafael van der Vaart during the break.

Koeman made a large number of substitutions in the final phase, but left Geertruida standing. In the 87th minute, after France’s disallowed goal, the right winger suddenly sat down. He then left the field, appearing to grab his hamstring. “It doesn’t look good. Whether someone else will join? I don’t know right now. They are worries for tomorrow,” said Koeman afterwards.

Geertruida’s apparent injury also means bad news for Feyenoord. The team from Rotterdam will play the away match against Sparta Rotterdam next weekend. A few days later, the duel with Ajax in the KNVB Cup follows.
