Leeuwarden – The police have arrested a 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman from Leeuwarden on suspicion of assaulting officers. This was preceded by the arrest of a 24-year-old man from Leeuwarden. He is being held on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons. All this took place on Saturday September 9 around 1:30 am on the Archipelweg in Leeuwarden.

Report of fight
The police initially responded to a report of a fight in Populierstraat. On Archipelweg, officers decided to check a vehicle and a number of bystanders because they may have been involved in the fight. A brass knuckle was found in the vehicle. A 24-year-old man from Leeuwarden indicated that he was the driver of the vehicle and he also said that an object similar to a firearm was located in the vehicle. The officers then decided to arrest the man on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons.

Cop beaten
During the man’s arrest, a 19-year-old woman from Leeuwarden resisted. She was verbally aggressive. An officer tried to keep her at a distance, but the woman lashed out, hitting another officer. The 19-year-old woman was subsequently brought under control and arrested on suspicion of assault.

Agent attacked
Another bystander, a 22-year-old man from Leeuwarden, then interfered with this arrest again. He attacked one of the officers who was arresting the 19-year-old woman. This 22-year-old man was also arrested by the police on suspicion of assault.

Declaration
The officers involved have filed a report against the 22-year-old man and the 19-year-old woman. They are in custody and will be heard. The 24-year-old man is also still in custody and is being interrogated. The police will investigate the assaults and the prohibited possession of weapons.

Violence against police is unacceptable
The police find aggression and violence against its employees unacceptable. We will not tolerate that. These types of incidents, in which officers have been abused, have a high priority for the police and we also see that the Public Prosecution Service treats these types of cases with priority.
