Apple has scheduled its WWDC 2024 developer conference for June 10. You would think that this is only for developers and not that interesting, but many announcements are actually made for the general public. This year, mainly artificial intelligence applications are expected.
WWDC June 10
Apple has been working on artificial intelligence for some time, even though we don’t hear much about it. That had to change during WWDC on June 10. The event itself lasts four days, but it kicks off with a keynote on June 10 and then we often hear about interesting new features coming to iOS and more. It is not surprising that Apple is also busy with AI: Google and Microsoft have been working on it for much longer. It is still unclear whether Apple really creates its own AI or whether it chooses existing artificial intelligence as a basis.
In addition, Apple is said to be planning to announce new hardware. There is talk of two new AirPods: a cheaper variant and AirPods 3 with noise canceling. There will also likely be AirPods Max headphones with USB-C. There is also talk here and there about a new iPad, although Apple may not wait until June, but announce it one of these weeks.
iOS update
What is a regular feature during WWDC is announcing new capabilities for iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and macOS: it is Apple’s equivalent of Google I/O, which is scheduled for May. It is a moment for both major tech companies to show developers what new possibilities they can work with. As an audience, we also get a glimpse of what the major update to the iOS and Android operating systems entails. That update will not come immediately, but in September/October.
For Apple, it is rumored that there will be new options to increase accessibility, so that people with, for example, a visual impairment can use the iPhone better. It is also expected that you will soon be able to place app icons wherever you want on your iPhone. Furthermore, it remains to be seen what Apple will come up with, but the focus will be on artificial intelligence. So June 10 can be added to the agenda, which is on a Monday and the keynote is expected to take place at 7:00 PM Dutch time.
