In her column on the website of the KRO-NCRV, presenter Anita Witzier recalls memories of the holidays from her youth: “We went ‘days away’. A day trip to the Beekse Bergen or to the Fairytale Forest in the Efteling. However, we spent most of those summer holidays on a beach on the Lek next to the ‘Opperstokse Veer’. Without a swimming certificate but with a cool box. In the summers with a swimming certificate I could be found in the swimming pool every day, except on Sundays, where everyone was in love with lifeguard Rob and where you could buy a popsicle for a quarter. Incidentally, I sometimes looked with jealous eyes at the children who had received a guilder from home for a cornetto. Big people ice cream.”
