Amazon introduces an app that allows you to pay with the palm of your hand

It’s not a fortune teller: Amazon introduces an app that reads your hand. Not to determine how long your lifeline is, but to determine how high your bank balance is. Or well, whether it’s enough to make the payment, because that’s what Amazon One is for.

Palm

So you still need your hand to pay contactless, but you no longer need a device in your hand. The palm appears to have a unique structure and can therefore also be used for biometric data, just as a fingerprint can. Only they are very small, and such a palm works just a little easier and faster. You can see it in the video: you hold your hand above a scanner and the payment is made.

To use this, you must first have your palm captured by Amazon’s AI. This looks at the wrinkles in your palm, but also at the veins under the skin, for example. Apparently such a palm has many facets that make it a unique part of the body and on the basis of which you can therefore be identified.

Amazon

It then recognizes that it is you every time you go shopping and have your palm scanned and the linked payment details of your account are used to make the payment. In the app you can then see what has been removed. It is really a new option to make it easier for people to pay after shopping, although it is of course also a very nice experiment for people to try whether it works for them, which will probably create some extra business in the store, especially at the beginning. will come.

On the other hand, there are undoubtedly many people who should not think about it. They are afraid that such a unique identifier will end up on the street. Amazon says the palm data is encrypted and stored in a secure part of Amazon’s own cloud under AWS (Amazon Web Services). So it is not stored locally on your phone.

It is currently only available in the United States and only at the Whole Foods and Panera Bread chains. The plan is that more and more stores will be added. However, for example, there is now an Amazon Go store in several places where you can shop without having to go through the payment process.
