The story
Edith Piaf just passed away. And she is very confused. This is not what she wanted. This is not what she ever imagined. She would die in Paris with a priest at her bedside. Not in some hamlet. Recently deceased, the confused Piaf encounters four characters. The Angel (Cammaert). The Devil (Bovelander). The Fool (Gerrits). And Death (Carreon). Then it turns out that her husband Theo Sarapo has listened carefully. He has called an ambulance and lies to the driver that Edith is asleep. The journey is a long one. Nearly a thousand miles. Piaf insists to her four mates that she is not dead as long as she is not in Paris. And as long as she doesn’t know what she’s leaving behind. Thus, for the duration of the journey to Paris, she is stuck with these four passengers, each of whom has left an indelible impression on her existence. Piaf wants to know where these four were in her life. Through their stories and Edith Piaf’s unforgettable music, the legend relives several key moments in her life to discover who she was and what it is she left behind.
Piaf is written by Allard Blom and directed by Martin Michel. Joris van Veldhoven is responsible for the decor, Arno Bremers is responsible for the costumes and Coen van der Hoeven is responsible for the lighting design. The LIVE combo is led by Frans Heemskerk.

Piaf can be seen throughout the Netherlands from October 2023 to February 2024.
