Fernando Alonso does not want to know about the criticism that Aston Martin has to deal with regarding the concept of the AMR23. Helmut Marko, Christian Horner and Sergio Pérez said after the race in Bahrain that they were happy to see three Red Bull Racing cars on the podium. Alonso knows that the people at Aston Martin have worked very hard to come up with a unique concept. However, the two-time world champion is not sure whether this concept will also be competitive this weekend.
Alonso had a fantastic debut with Aston Martin by immediately scoring a podium. However, there are still plenty of question marks for next weekend. “I wish I had an answer, but that’s what everyone does on Thursdays. We all make predictions,” Alonso is quoted by AS. “We won’t know until Sunday whether our performance in Jeddah will be as good as in Bahrain. It’s a challenge to see how the car works here and in Australia.”
Alonso does not want to know about criticism of the AMR23 concept
After the Bahrain Grand Prix, the discussion about the concept of the Aston Martin car flared up again. During the race weekend in Spain in 2022, everyone noticed the similarities with the Red Bull car. “We focus on ourselves, there are very clear differences on the car. The team has put a lot of effort into building a unique car. I don’t pay much attention to it, but it’s also not true that the car is the same. Visually they are different.’
Alonso therefore finds it strange that there are different stories in the media. “An example of this is that Mercedes said that our car is fifty percent like theirs and Red Bull said the same about their car. These theories are simply not true. Moreover, all cars look alike, the Ferrari, Haas and Alfa Romeo are very similar.’ The Spaniard does see a resemblance to another car from the paddock. “To tell the truth, the car most like ours is the Alpine with the tunnels in the sidepods.”
