Alleged recruiters of young people arrested for criminal activities

Amsterdam – On Monday, May 22, the detectives arrested two men (20.23) from Amsterdam on suspicion of recruiting young people for armed robberies. The young people in different compositions are said to be responsible for six armed robberies in Amsterdam, Diemen and Huizen.

These include two robberies at a drugstore on Bijlmerplein in February of this year and a robbery at a gas station in Huizen on February 18, 2023. Between February and May, the police arrested a total of five young people from Amsterdam and (the surrounding) of Rotterdam, aged 15 to 17 years. Two of the five suspects are still in custody, while pre-trial detention has been suspended for the remaining three.

The young people are said to have been promised a sum of money of a few tenners for committing an (armed) robbery. However, the goods stolen during the robberies would have gone to the adult suspects. The consequences for the young people are very clear: a criminal record and perhaps no VOG. For the employees of and customers in the store, the robberies are a traumatic experience that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.

The two alleged recruiters have now been brought before the examining magistrate and have been detained for two weeks longer.
