on view from April 5

Is he crazy, an idiot or is there something to it? In 2017, Didi Taihuttu, his wife Romaine and their three young daughters Joli, Juna and Jessa sold all their belongings and put the money into bitcoins. They travel the world and everyone can follow their adventures via social media. The family became famous and father Didi became a cult figure in the crypto world.

More families, including his own brother and sister, followed suit. How has the family fared over the years as the currency has fluctuated and what is their daily life like? Documentary maker June te Spenke has followed the family closely and made a four-part docuseries about it.

Documentary series

The recording of the documentary series started in 2021. Over the years, maker June te Spenke follows the family in sunny Mexico and Thailand, but also back in the Netherlands, showing all the peaks and valleys. From organizing well-attended crypto meetings, building a school for underprivileged children, almost being robbed in Mexico and coming into contact with the law in Portugal, all the family’s adventures can be followed. And while the cryptocurrency fluctuates considerably in value.

When bitcoin rose to great heights in 2021, I started to delve deeper into this coin and created the Cryptokoorts series. I came into contact with the bitcoin family and father Didi. I found him so fascinating because he is a real bitcoin guru and other families have started following him, including his own brother and sister. I have recorded this process. What I also find interesting is that the family traveled around the world with their three young daughters and I wanted to capture how these kids deal with that. This was only possible by following them closely wherever they went. This resulted in an almost three-year filming period in which I captured all the highs and lows.

Famke Next and Kelly

June te Spenke is known from previous documentaries Famke Next about Famke Louise and Kelly about Kelly van der Veer. By following people one-on-one with her camera, the most intimate details emerge, especially when they forget that there is another camera between them.

All-In The Bitcoin Family can be seen exclusively on Prime Video from April 5.
