From 2001 to the end of August 2016, he was the permanent entertainment expert at ‘RTL Boulevard’ and in 2020 he returned as an expert in ‘Shownieuws’. Since August 2022, however, we no longer hear the critical, humorous and sometimes slightly villainous vision of Albert Verlinde (61) on the daily entertainment news. In Party this week, Albert talks about that part of his career when asked: “I shared everything, but when adversity came, I realized that I had become very much public property.”

Albert, In the media you present yourself as an outspoken personality with your heart on your sleeve. Is that consistent with your character? Are you always such an open book in your private life or do you also like to keep things to yourself?

“I think I am indeed quite an open book. For a long time I also said that I thought that was fantastic. Then I looked at America and, for example, Oprah Winfrey, who we always knew and learned everything about. So, in my experience, it became a bit part of the fact that when you are on TV every day, people know who you are and how you live. So I shared everything: about my parents, about my partner Onno and so on. But when a bit of adversity came, I realized that I had become very public property, so that everyone looks very much at you when things go wrong. That’s the downside of being famous. I learned from that, which is why I no longer shout from the rooftops about my love life. Onno and I have a great time together, but we keep the details and how we interpret them to ourselves.”

The rest of our beautiful conversation with Albert is now in Party 16!
