Ajax 'one big receptacle': 'I wish the supporters a lot of strength this year'

Emile Schelvis wonders whether Davy Klaassen did the right thing in exchanging Ajax for Internazionale. The Serie A expert speaks in #DoneDeal of VoetbalPrimeur about the transfer of the midfielder.

On Deadline Day, Klaassen made the surprising switch to Inter. “I think Klaassen is moving from one bank to another,” says Schelvis. “I think he would have had more playing time in Amsterdam than he will now get in Milan. But it will also be a financial and social consideration.” The commentator says that Klaassen ends up in a ‘warm bath’ with teammates Denzel Dumfries and Stefan de Vrij. But: “In terms of football, they still have Barella and Frattesi in the team.”

“They still have so many options before Klaasen comes up. Behind the striker is Thuram, who has been one of the best in recent weeks. Where will Davy play a role?”, the commentator wonders. Schelvis notes that Ajax has lost another real Ajax player after Dusan Tadic and Daley Blind. “I wish Klaassen the best, but I think it is the next loss for Ajax. What remains of the backbone that made the group of players so strong?”

“It is one big repository of people who still have to prove everything,” is the hard conclusion of Schelvis. “There is a trainer around that who is also experiencing everything for the first time and people up there who are also there for the first time. I wish Ajax’s supporters a lot of strength in the coming year. Purchases are made at the second level of England, Germany and France. That is unworthy of Ajax.”
