Agents suspended after inappropriate behavior during private trip to Paris

Six employees of the East Netherlands police have been immediately suspended due to a video circulating in which they make inappropriate comments while driving through Paris. The agents were there together in private time when they visited the Dutch match against France.

Derogatory

Images circulating on social media last week when the six police officers drove through Paris in a van. In the almost two-minute video, the occupants are racist and derogatory about passers-by they meet on the street. They also make laughing comments about ‘ethnic profiling’ and a ‘bomb belt’.

Janny Knol, police chief East Netherlands: ‘As the police, we are very shocked by these images and statements, because we want to be a police of and for everyone. The behavior of these colleagues, even though they were in private time, does not fit in with this and is completely unacceptable.’

Research

The VIK (Security, Integrity and Complaints) department of the police is investigating the statements and involvement of the six police officers. During the investigation, they were immediately suspended from their duties, the police said.
