Sassenheim – A conflict arose between an agent in his spare time and a group of young people in the night of February 27 to 28 around 2:00 am, when the young people visited him at his home. The agent was not on duty at the time. He came out with an ax in his hand and wanted to arrest one of the youths. The police were alerted, partly at the request of the colleague. When officers arrived, they identified their colleague as a suspect of threats. An internal investigation will be launched against the agent and the case will be submitted to the Public Prosecution Service. The officer involved is not at work pending the investigation.

Why the young people initially visited the agent’s house and how the conflict arose is still unclear and is being investigated. Images show how the off-duty officer pulls one of the youths by her coat and orders her to sit on her knees, while he still has the ax in his hand. Deputy district chief Danny Williams: “These are intense images to see. This is not the behavior we expect from our colleagues. This is not the police we want to be.”

What is an internal investigation?

An internal investigation is an investigation into the facts of an incident with the aim of establishing whether there may have been a breach of duty. An internal investigation offers the police, as an employer, the opportunity to clarify all relevant facts of individual behavior as clearly as possible. The investigation sketches as complete a picture as possible of the incident, in which both incriminating and exculpatory material is collected and recorded.
