Now that emergency medicine has been recognized as a medical specialty, the training for A&E physicians can be expanded and the scientific domain expanded. Whether there will also be more money for specialist medical training is up to the politicians.

“I’m proud, grateful, everything.” And: ‘Wow’. These are some phrases from a post that A&E doctor Heleen Lameijer posted on LinkedIn when it became known that the Board of Medical Specialisms (CGS) still gave emergency medicine the predicate ‘medical specialism’ (see box).
