A 34-year-old Dutch woman collapsed and died early Saturday morning at an illegal rave in the rural hills between Innimond and Lompnas, in the French department of Ain, east of Lyon. Emergency responders attempted to resuscitate her at the scene, but she was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. Authorities have launched an investigation into the exact cause of death, AD reports.

The woman became unwell during the night from Friday to Saturday. Paramedics were dispatched quickly and immediately began resuscitation efforts, which proved unsuccessful. French officials confirmed that the woman was a Dutch national but have not released her identity or additional circumstances surrounding her death.

According to multiple French media outlets, several other individuals at the rave sustained injuries or experienced health problems. Firefighters and rescue personnel provided medical care on site, though the nature and severity of those cases have not been disclosed.

The unauthorized dance event took place in the remote area of Le Blettone and drew approximately 5,000 attendees, despite a formal ban issued by the French prefecture on May 15. That ban prohibited all unregistered musical events and the transportation of sound equipment. The rave was reportedly still underway as of Saturday afternoon.

Local authorities deployed civil protection and security forces. Police maintained a presence at the site, conducting vehicle inspections, issuing fines to participants, and restricting access to the surrounding area.

Officials said law enforcement’s primary goal is to maintain public order and prevent escalation. To avoid clashes, police have focused on containing the crowd and gradually dispersing attendees.
