75 kg of illegal fireworks found and two people arrested

Sittard/Geleen – In an investigation into the trade in fireworks, the police arrested two men from Sittard on Thursday afternoon, June 1. The two are suspected of trafficking in and possession of illegal, professional fireworks.

After the police arrested the 36-year-old and 42-year-old residents of Sittard in Geleen, a house in Sittard was searched. During this search, 75 kg of illegal fireworks and an unknown amount of drugs were found. An unknown package was also found for which the EOD was activated. After investigation, it turned out that this package contained improvised fireworks. It was detonated in a controlled place. The remaining fireworks and the found drugs were seized. Both suspects have been charged.

Heavy explosions
The police pay attention to the trade and possession of illegal fireworks all year round. This type of fireworks can be used, for example, to cause heavy explosions. Given the danger this can pose to the environment and society, tackling this form of crime is a priority.
